Making Waves: An Advance on the Future

Open Call for 10 young artists

 

Nieuw Dakota's future is on shaky ground. Because we are not certain of our continued existence, we are taking an advance on the future and calling on the generation of artists, with whom we might otherwise only collaborate in a few years, to make a proposal for a compact exhibition. On a small scale, we still want to mean something for this generation, and in doing so, they immediately mean a lot to us. Together we prove what Amsterdam will miss without Nieuw Dakota.

 

In the coming weeks, we will conjure up a new small-scale exhibition space within our walls. We call on art students and recent graduates to submit their portfolio and a short presentation plan (1 A4) to smulders@nieuwdakota.com. We will select 10 young artists with whom we can join hands for a week this year!

 

How will we proceed?
- The available space is approx. 2.5 x 4 m
- Selected artists will receive a modest material/expense budget of 150 euros
- You can set up your work on Tuesday and Wednesday between 10 am and 6 pm.
- We open the exhibitions on Thursday at 17:00 (on the day itself you can of course still fine-tune a bit).
- The exhibiting artist gets an open bar during the opening and a generous amount of vouchers for their friends. Other bar revenues are shared 50/50 between Nieuw Dakota and the artist.
- The exhibition space will be open from Friday to Sunday, from 11 am - 6 pm. Do you want to be present as a host yourself? Then we can compensate you for those days within the allowed volunteer allowance.

 

Things to keep in mind:
Keep your presentation proposal manageable, Nieuw Dakota cannot provide technical support for the setup.
Make sure you can return the space to its original state after the expo, immediately after you someone else will take their turn!
