Tense Tides

Dark clouds are gathering above the NDSM wharf. The future for Nieuw Dakota looks ominous, as it does for many other fellow institutions in Amsterdam North. These last months have been turbulent; can we continue our programs? In what way, with a different face? In a different guise? For years, a thriving cultural life has been built on the wharf in Amsterdam-North, and now the waves of doom are lapping against the quay...These are tense tides.

Nieuw Dakota invites you to experience this tumultuous time with us in a series of happenings that follow the structure of a three-act play, the first of which we'll kick off during Museum Night:

ACT I: In the eye of the storm
November 2, 19:00 - 02:00
22:00: Performance by Sanne van Balen, Distance in Blue (approx. 20 minutes)
22:30 - 02:00 - DJs (Keep an eye on our Instagram for updates)

Featuring work by Sanne van Balen, Tamar Blom & Federico Murgia, and Antonia Klimsza.

With 'ACT I: In the eye of the storm', we create the set-up for this stormy autumn. We seek stability, but the water is up to our lips. We lean into the wind as the cold lashes our faces with wet streaks. Amidst the turbulence, we suddenly stand still, feeling paralyzed by the hectic atmosphere. During Museum Night, we showcase work by artists who play with the opposites of calm & commotion, and invite you to experience this chaotic standstill yourself. In parallel, our neighbors Beautiful Distress House present 'Techno Therapy', where you can dance the tension out of your body.
