Black hole or light point

Everything is possible on a white paper, a blank page.
Step out of your comfort bubble and leave your phone behind.
In this performative walk we enter through drawing actions a dialogue with Amsterdam Noord and each other. Feel, see, smell, listen and experience.
Get invited by a subtle pencil line or an action to create a connection.
So you come to new thoughts about Amsterdam Noord, the other and yourself.
A man calling wildly gesticulating as if the person on the other end of the line can see him, but only an audience that does not hear his conversation, sees his gestures. Is your phone a black hole or a light point? We hold our phone as a precious object. Less conversations or open friendly looks when people travel with the ferry or sit in a metro, just desperately staring at the phone looking for contact elsewhere. Where are we? Through telephone we are often in multiple worlds and realities at the same time, but are we still really here?
Leave your phone behind, experience the space of the blank page and take in the surroundings in this performative walk.
About Liesje van de Berk
In her drawings and performances, Liesje van de Berk creates a moment for dialogue, often non-verbally, focusing on personal contact, attentive presence and physical, sensitive involvement of herself and the audience. In her work, the focus is on the body language and the collective experience of tactility, movement, sound and environment in the conversation. By listening carefully to the non-verbal body language of the other, a conversation is created free of rules and expectations; an (unexpected) encounter, with room for every voice.
This performance is part of her art research project “Een lijn kan je ook samen trekken” , supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts). In this research process she develops interactive one-to-one performances and collective participative performances through actions of drawing in relation to the public space of Amsterdam Noord. She starts this research with walking and drawing through the streets of Amsterdam Noord, searching for possibilities to use the public space and to appropriate this temporarily.
