Tentoonstelling
The 2022 Graduation show of the Research Master of Art and Performance Research Studies presents the works of thirteen students who have been invested in doing historical, theoretical, and practice-based research into the visual and performative arts at the University of Amsterdam. Foraging for [...] shows the practice-based processes of this year’s graduates working with a wide variety of media, including painting, drawing, dance, sound, performance, installation, sculpture and film.

Moving against the grain of twentieth-century scholarship of the advancing, modern human conceit, the Artistic Research students have investigated, each in their own way, the divergent, layered, and conjoined projects that make up worlds. As progression stories lose traction, fixed and bounded connotations transform into open-ended gatherings. Foraging for [...] brings together projects that explore (non)human lifeways – and nonliving ways of being, not only by ways of thinking, but also through making them. Similar to the filaments that make up fungi, spreading into fans tangling in cords through the soil, each of the students’ projects departs from thoughts, acts, and interactions across disciplines, creating patterns and new assemblages. Some intended, some unintended, exploring possibilities on a human-disturbed planet.

The Research Master of Art and Performance Research Studies is a two-year programme with two specialisations, in which students explore the interconnections between the art and performance disciplines and between theory and practice. The programme of the Artistic Research specialisation seeks to create bridges between the arts and scholarly research by offering insight into, and training in new forms of research.
